FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the tutoring done?

Tutoring is normally done in the home as long as an adult is present. It can also be done in any public place, such as a library or coffee house.  We are also available online via Zoom, Facetime, Facebook Calling, Skype, or WhatsApp.

How do the parents learn about their student's progress?

Regular consulting sessions are scheduled between the tutor and the parents. Parents can also meet with the tutor at any point.

Is a commitment for a certain number of tutoring hours necessary?

No commitment is required. Parents and students determine when there has been sufficient tutoring to meet the student’s academic goals.

Is there a charge for canceled sessions?

There is no fee for any session canceled at least 24 hours before any scheduled lesson. After that, there is a charge equivalent to 1 hour of tutoring.

Do you test the student's abilities?

We can also do standardized academic or achievement testing to help pinpoint remediation areas that may be required. This is a separate fee.

Our child is in special-ed. Do you go to IEP meetings?

We can accompany you to IEP meetings if the school is within 30 miles or we can participate by phone or Zoom. There is a separate IEP fee.

Do you guarantee results?

Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee specific results. Motivation, the number of sessions, and the duration of tutoring all contribute to success. We can tell you that we have been doing this for over 20 years and our students have been as successful as they can be! Test prep tutoring usually results in an 80-100 point increase, depending on where they were to start with. Subject tutoring usually increases AT LEAST one letter grade and as much as 4 letter grades.
